Cutting Composite Fence Panels Made Easy, Fit NeoTimber® Fencing To Any Space

Cutting composite fence panels sounds complicated and a bit drastic, luckily our composite fence panels are designed to work across the full remit of garden designs, with supports in place for both hard ground and soft ground installations. However, there may be obstacles in place, or existing fencing posts that you wish to reuse, that require an extra level of customisation, should the distance of your fencing posts be slightly beneath the standard 1.8m length of our composite slat boards.

In this article, we will explain how you can cut composite fencing panels to make them work perfectly for your space. Let’s take a look...

Composite Fencing Cuts Like Timber

The parameters of your space may dictate that your fencing border needs to be a different size to the standard 1.8m length of the composite fence panels that we have designed. Maybe you have an awkward corner, or a boundary line that you cannot cross, that necessitates slightly changing the length of your fence. Thankfully, NeoTimber’s composite fence panels can be cut down to size using standard woodworking tools, though we would advise using a circular saw, as it would guarantee a clean, straight cut, that would sit flush to the channel of the composite fence posts or post inserts.

Similarly, your fence board capping rails will need cutting, but the hollow design of this material makes this a simple task. This hollow design also allows for the fixing l-brackets to be easily hammered into place once these cuts are made.

A Component-Based System

You may well question why we have chosen to design our composite fence panels to come supplied as individual pieces, as opposed to the completed panels you would get if you opted for a timber alternative, for example. However, the component-based nature of our composite fencing makes it far simpler to cut your panels down to size, and not leave you with any extra composite fence posts or capping rails that you do not need.

With many other kinds of alternative fencing, the panels come supplied as standard, pre-built panels, making it harder to customise, cut down to size, and demolish entirely if you are looking to replace them. NeoTimber’s system allows you greater customisation and modularity should you wish to make any changes, such as swapping out the colour of your fencing, or adding one of our decorative screen designs in place of the top two composite fence slats.

Retrofitting To Existing Fence Posts

It may be that it is not an obstacle in your garden you are trying to accommodate by cutting your composite fence panels down to size and are instead trying to fit NeoTimber’s fencing solution between your existing timber or concrete posts. Fencing is something you may have inherited from a previous homeowner or have invested in previously with another material. Because of this, we have designed our fencing system to be retrofitted to existing builds.

The way you can retrofit with our system is to buy all the other components except the composite posts, and instead choose the appropriate post inserts to fit to your current posts. These post inserts are designed to be fixed to pre-existing timber and concrete fencing posts, serving as a channel for you to stack up your tongue and groove composite fencing and capping rails into place.
