Quick answers to common cladding questions.
How is NeoTimber® cladding installed?
NeoTimber® composite cladding is installed by fixing the boards directly to a supporting framework of joists using a concealed fixing method. Installation begins with securing starter clips to each joist, allowing the first board to locate accurately. Subsequent boards are fixed using NeoTimber® cladding screws through the top groove for a neat, hidden finish. Boards can be installed horizontally or vertically using the same fixing principles. Correct spacing and expansion gaps must be followed. Full step-by-step guidance is available in our installation resources.
What is the best cladding type for my house?
The best cladding choice depends on your design goals. NeoTimber® composite cladding is ideal for residential homes, providing the authentic look of timber with excellent durability and low maintenance. Classic cladding offers a traditional timber-style look with a premium sanded texture finish. The Deluxe and Slatted ranges feature inspiring designs, with brushed and deep-embossed woodgrain finishes. All ranges are easy to install, being suitable for residential properties where the boundary is greater than 1m.
What are the benefits of composite cladding?
Composite cladding combines the look of timber with improved durability and reduced maintenance. Unlike wood, it does not rot, splinter, or require painting or sealing. NeoTimber® composite cladding retains its appearance for longer and performs consistently in outdoor environments. Capped options add an extra protective layer to the board surface, helping resist everyday exposure. The result is a facade solution that offers long-term visual consistency, straightforward care, and dependable performance for residential and commercial buildings.
Why would I use NeoTimber® cladding over timber?
NeoTimber® cladding offers the visual appeal of timber without the ongoing maintenance timber demands. Traditional wood requires regular treatment and is vulnerable to rot, fading, and surface deterioration. NeoTimber® composite cladding provides a stable, extremely low-maintenance alternative, maintaining its finish with minimal effort. Capped ranges like Deluxe and Slatted offer enhanced surface protection, preserving appearance over time. Additionally, NeoTimber® cladding is available with Class C and Class D fire ratings, ensuring safety for residential and commercial applications. For those seeking long-term durability, consistent colour, and reduced upkeep, NeoTimber® cladding is the ideal solution. Interested in learning more? Read our Composite Cladding vs. Wood Blog.
Can NeoTimber® cladding be used on high-rise developments?
NeoTimber® composite cladding is not suitable for high-rise developments. While it is available with Class C and Class D fire ratings, these ratings are generally appropriate for low-rise residential and select commercial buildings. Always consult the latest building regulations and fire safety guidelines when specifying cladding for taller structures. High-rise projects are governed by far more stringent facade specifications, and materials must be selected accordingly.
What warranty is included with NeoTimber® cladding?
NeoTimber® composite cladding is supplied with long-term warranty cover for peace of mind on residential and commercial projects. All NeoTimber® cladding ranges include a 25-year residential and 10-year commercial warranty as standard. Warranty cover applies when products are installed and used in line with published installation and care guidance. Full warranty terms should always be reviewed before specification to confirm suitability for the intended application, building type, and regulatory requirements.
Does NeoTimber® cladding require much maintenance?
NeoTimber® composite cladding is extremely low maintenance. It does not require painting, staining, sealing, or seasonal treatments. Routine cleaning with warm water, a mild detergent, and a soft brush is usually sufficient to keep surfaces looking clean and well presented. Capped ranges feature an additional protective surface layer that acts as a barrier against the elements, helping resist surface wear. Compared with timber cladding, ongoing upkeep is significantly reduced, saving time and long-term maintenance costs. For more information, see our warranty and care guides.
Can I install NeoTimber® cladding myself or do I need a professional?
NeoTimber® composite cladding can be installed by competent DIYers who are comfortable working with external façades and fixing systems. The cladding uses a straightforward concealed fixing method and clear installation guidance is provided. However, professional installation is often preferred where accurate alignment, detailing around openings, or larger elevations are involved. Approved installers are familiar with correct spacing, ventilation, and finishing details, helping achieve a clean façade appearance and consistent long-term performance.
Is NeoTimber® cladding fire rated?
Fire rating varies by cladding range. NeoTimber® composite cladding is available with Class C and Class D fire ratings. The Classic cladding range is Class C fire rated, while the Deluxe and Slatted ranges are Class D fire rated. These classifications make the products suitable for select residential and commercial applications. Fire requirements depend on building height, use, and proximity to boundaries, so product specifications and local regulations should always be reviewed before specifying cladding.
