From A Previously Under-Utilised Area To A Chocolate Garden Decking Leisure Space That Can Be Enjoyed For Years To Come

Project Background

A full makeover was required to transform this previously unused and unloved area of this client’s garden. Over the years, the growth of plants, bushes, and greenery had encroached on this area, minimising the amount of leisure space that could be enjoyed throughout the year. Faced with the prospect of yet another summer not being able to make the most of their outdoors, the client decided to seek advice on different solutions they could opt for.

Naturally, a raised decking area that could be built into the landscape seemed the most suitable option: it allowed the customer to take full advantage of the space and seemed a cost-effective solution. While decking seemed like the obvious choice, the client was still apprehensive about the ongoing care and maintenance requirements that were associated with traditional timber decking solutions. A composite decking solution, therefore, presented itself as a clear choice.

Our Proposal

Like with most projects, ground clearance and the construction of a substructure were the first installation considerations for this project. The landscaper on this particular job felt inclined to raise the deck area with the use of planters and a treated timber joist and post network. Weed control fabric was also used to keep underlying weeds at bay. Once the subframe was in place and joists laid at 350mm centres, NeoTimber’s Classic chocolate composite decking boards were installed.

As the deck was designed around the 3.6m lengths of this product, the level of wastage was next to nothing and there were no cuts in sight. A perimeter edge on two sides, an in-set step, as well as a neatly framed edge using a corner trim provided additional features that made this deck a well designed, tidy space. The addition of some traditional furniture, paired with the rich tones of Classic chocolate garden decking, transformed this space from a previously under-utilised area to a dining and leisure space that can be enjoyed for years to come.
