NeoTimber® offers three core composite decking subframe installation options to suit your decking project.
Decking projects can be diverse and varied and there is not a “one size fits all” subframe solution. Subsequently – we have developed three core subframe options for customers to use in conjunction with our NeoTimber fixing clips and composite deck boards.
Using Composite Joists
Composite joists provide a practical, low load-bearing solution for decking projects where strength is needed without adding excessive weight. These joists are specifically designed to be fixed securely onto a solid, flat concrete base, ensuring stability and long-term durability for your deck structure.
Ideal for both residential and commercial applications, composite joists offer the benefits of being low-maintenance and resistant to rot, moisture, and insect damage. When installed correctly, they form a strong foundation that supports your decking boards while maintaining a clean, professional appearance.

Using Adjustable Pedestals
Adjustable pedestals are an ideal solution for creating level decking surfaces on roof terraces or other solid, flat foundations. They allow precise height adjustments, ensuring a perfectly even deck even over slight surface irregularities. This makes them perfect for outdoor areas where a stable, level platform is essential.
Beyond levelling, adjustable pedestals provide excellent drainage beneath the deck, helping prevent water pooling and extending the life of your decking boards. They are quick to install, low-maintenance, and versatile, making them a reliable choice for both residential and commercial decking projects.

Using Plastic Joists & Posts
Recycled plastic joists and posts offer a robust subframe solution for decking projects, particularly in areas with sloped or uneven ground. Unlike traditional timber, plastic components are lightweight, durable, and resistant to moisture, rot, and insect damage, making them ideal for challenging outdoor environments. They provide a stable and long-lasting foundation for your decking boards while maintaining a clean and professional look.
This system is highly adaptable, allowing for easy levelling and adjustments to accommodate changes in terrain. Installation is straightforward, and the durability of plastic joists and posts ensures minimal maintenance over time. Whether for residential gardens or commercial projects, this subframe solution provides a reliable, versatile option for creating safe, attractive, and enduring decking surfaces.

While the methods above are outlined as recommended subframe options - they are not a necessary frame requirement for our composite decking boards. Other materials, such as pressure-treated timber and metal can be used, as long as they follow the same installation principles.
