Roof Terrace Decking: Enjoy The Outdoors Even With Limited Space
Whether you are a homeowner or a landlord, one thing which has become clear in recent months is that living inside even for short, sustained periods can be detrimental to wellbeing and mental health. Installing Roof Terrace Decking can provide a refreshing outdoor retreat to boost mood and relaxation.
In response to this, sports clubs, parks and outdoor pursuits have seen an unprecedented swell as people seek to find ways to enjoy the great outdoors. One way in you can contribute to your own wellbeing is by starting at home.
Living in a maisonette or flat can mean that you have limited access to private outdoor space where you can relax and unwind. Roof terrace composite decking is an ideal solution, providing access to flat roofs which would otherwise remain useless.
Roof terrace decking offers a fantastic solution for both residential and commercial applications.
Installation
Historically, fitting decking to a flat roof has been problematic as joists and posts must be anchored by fixing to the subframe solution, which must in turn be fixed through the waterproof membrane, rendering it less waterproof. NeoTimber® composite decking has the option of fixing joists directly to compatible pedestals, which are fully adjustable. These do not need to be anchored and so they maintain the integrity of your flat roof.
If access is required to the roof below, you could consider installing a galvannealed roof access hatch in your deck. This will provide a secure and weatherproof way to access the roof space for maintenance or repairs.

Maintenance & Longevity
Considering the issues associated with accessing flat roofs, minimising the amount of maintenance and repair once your deck is in-situ is in your primary interest. It’s so much less hassle to install a permanent base rather than one which will rot, as a consistently unmaintained deck will ultimately lead to damage to your flat roof which could lead to water ingress.

Fire-Rating
NeoTimber® produce fire-rated composite decking in keeping with the industry standards for WPC products at Class C (EN 13501-1). This means that it is suitable for most low-rise roof terrace developments. It is not suitable for high-rise developments, due to a tightening of safety regulations following the Grenfell Tower enquiry.
