Low-Maintenance Composite Cladding For An Iconic Sports Venue

low-maintenance composite cladding

Project Background

As part of ongoing improvements to the iconic Emirates Stadium in London, the club sought to modernise a large area of the external concourse. This section of the stadium surrounds one of the key entrances used by supporters and visitors, meaning it had to deliver both a refreshed visual identity and the durability expected from a high-traffic environment. The project coincided with the installation of a new statue commemorating a club legend, so the surrounding façade needed to present a clean, contemporary backdrop that complemented the new feature and enhanced the arrival experience for fans.

The existing finish had become tired over time and no longer reflected the premium character of the wider stadium. The stadium required a cladding solution that could transform the appearance of the space, accept applied lettering for wayfinding, and withstand year-round exposure without fading or demanding ongoing upkeep. The club therefore explored options that offered modern aesthetics supported by proven long-lasting durability suitable for a landmark venue.

Our Proposal

NeoTimber® supplied 120 m² of Deluxe composite cladding, chosen for its low-maintenance properties, high-quality finish and suitability for use in prominent public environments. It provides the clean, contemporary aesthetic the club requires and allows lettering to be applied directly to the surface without issue. This ensures the updated façade can support both visual enhancement and functional signage in one coherent system, improving clarity and consistency around the concourse.

The capped composite surface of the cladding offers excellent resistance to colour fading, staining and weathering, which was essential for a stadium exposed to constant footfall, changing weather conditions and year-round match day activity. Its robust construction also supports long-lasting durability with minimal upkeep, reducing both maintenance time and operational disruption. The cladding was installed alongside premium recycled plastic planters and timber seating to create a cohesive, high-quality surround that aligns with the wider stadium environment. The completed scheme has delivered a durable and visually striking upgrade befitting one of the country’s most recognisable sporting venues.
